This is a school project I did for my Editorial class in 2019. The brief instructed to create a magazine by designing a wordmark showcased on 12 issues of covers and several spreads including credits/Editor’s note, table of contents, two articles, and a photo journal. We had the freedom to choose whatever magazine category we wanted, as well as the content. I chose to focus on lifestyle for my magazine, highlighting popular music artists and sneaker culture.
My process for this project began with creating thumbnails for the nameplate of the magazine. The original nameplate was a hand-drawn block typeface with slime dripping down the letters. After producing the front covers for all twelve issues, I decided to alter the nameplate. The revised nameplate was designed with smooth wavy bubble letters that fit perfectly in between each other to show movement, almost as if the letters are softly floating in water (or slime).
